Volunteering and philanthropy, work for me. It keeps me connected with my community, while supporting causes that are worthy, and providing much needed labor/resources/expertise/skills to organisations for free. Nothing beats volunteering for a real sense of pride in making a contribution to society, not everything is about earning money!
